In this sermon directed at Christian men and rural congregants, St. Asterius calls for a reflection on the purpose of their gathering, which honors martyrs and promotes spiritual growth. He criticizes the preoccupation with material wealth and trade, urging attendees to redirect their efforts towards the Church and the pursuit of virtue. Drawing from biblical examples, he highlights the destructive nature of avarice and its historical consequences, emphasizing the need for self-examination and the rejection of greed in favor of spiritual enlightenment and salvation.
