Buchbeschreibung GRIN Verlag Aug 2016, 2016. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. Neuware - Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 10/10, , language: English, abstract: This paper analyzes whether the legislative women's quota implemented in Tanzania has helped to reduce the existing gender gap in that country. We focus on a set of development indicators indicated by the literature and an analysis of female political activity. We exploit the variation in the number of female representatives across the 131 districts of Tanzania, employing a Difference and Differences approach including fixed effects and controlling for a number of socioeconomic variables. Our analysis indicates that the legislative women's quota in Tanzania has led to significant reductions in the gender gap and improvements for women. The quota has effectively increased political participation in accordance with its goals, and the level of female representation continues to rise. We find evidence that the quota has reduced the gender gap in education for certain age groups, and we find indications of small improvements to female empowerment. In accordance with previous findings in other countries, we find that the increased female representation has led to substantial investments in water infrastructure that has greatly increased the number of people with access to clean water. While we do not find significant health impacts, this may be due to limitations in our dataset. 44 pp. Englisch. Artikel-Nr. 9783656984351

Buchbeschreibung Rainer Hampp Dez 2014, 2014. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. Neuware - This research focuses on three issues: the personal characteristics and motivations of the female entrepreneurs of Sudan, how conducive is the business environment for the female entrepreneurs of Sudan in terms of availability of finance and supporting infrastructural services and the major constraints imposed by the society's attitudes and government regulations on business start-up, taxes and labour that may still impede female entrepreneurs of Sudan. The study used survey methodology and the questionnaire research method to collect data from 142 female businesses of different sizes, in different geographical locations and in different industries. Businesswomen have immense problems accessing finance and many aspects of infrastructural services and government regulations on business start-up and taxes that are not business-friendly either. Unexpectedly, the research findings indicate society's positive attitudes to businesswomen. The study has made some recommendations including making microfinance initiative easily accessible, improving infrastructure, streamlining government regulations on starting-up business and licensing, introducing tax reforms and incentives, organizing businesswomen in the informal sector and enhancing businesswomen organizations' relations with universities. 112 pp. Englisch. Buchbeschreibung LAP Lambert Academic Publishing Apr 2017, 2017. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. Neuware - The expansion of microfinance, by enhancing inclusive finance, promised to address the issue of poverty alleviation, promoting women's empowerment and sustainable development. The high value attached to such interventions has been marked by the award of a Nobel Peace Prize to Grameen Bank and its founder Dr. Muhammed Yunus. Billions of dollars continue to be invested to upscale outreach. Unfortunately, such interventions, often focused only on 'minimalist' microcredit and implemented without addressing specific gender issues, risk perpetuating the status quo. Where the newly gained improved women's bargaining power pose a threat to the established societal norm vis a vis what is valued, allowed, and expected from a woman/man, and a girl/boy, such interventions even worsen existing injustice, enhancing intimate partner violence, etc, In many cases, what has started as a purely social concern has given rise to emergence of profit motivated institutions, which became the 'new money lenders' at the bottom of the pyramid. This paper undertakes a very comprehensive analysis of existing practices in various contexts, and offers some practical recommendations. 104 pp. Englisch. Artikel-Nr. 9783330064409
