Following the same style as the hugely successful Horrible Histories, this is the latest in the Wicked Wales series, containing an entertaining collection of facts and myths about the Celts and Romans in Wales, covering the period between 800BC and 400AD. Information is presented at a brisk and lively pace, broken up by quizzes, differing fonts, speech bubbles, cartoons and drawings that continuously pull the reader through the book. There are letters, interviews, magazine articles and diaries to vary the layout. It has a jokey style, and takes a light approach to the material, using puns, witty alliteration and a range of current references, including the Daleks! Where these books differ from Horrible Histories is that they focus specifically in and around Wales. My children were keen to grab this one out of my hands. It was an enjoyable and informative read, and will certainly entertain its target audience, boys and girls aged 9+.
