“What small child doesn't love to count or to anticipate all the glorious things they will do when they are bigger? This original picture book combines these two pastimes by embedding succeeding numbers within increasingly imaginative, bold fantasies for the future." —Kirkus Reviews

When I Am Big is a whimsically illustrated counting book that sparks a child’s curiosity and confidence, inviting them to explore the world through the magic of numbers.

What will you do when you are big? How many scoops of ice cream will you eat? How many puddles will you jump over? And just how late will you stay up?

With charming illustrations, When I Am Big encourages young readers to dream big and count their way through all the fun and adventures waiting for them as they grow. Through lively first-person narration, children are invited to imagine:
"I will tie my shoes all by myself and make 3 knots with big bows.”
“I will jump over 9 puddles, all of them at once!”
“I will build a roller coaster that has 17 cars."

This enchanting counting picture book guides kids from numbers 1 through 25. Once they’ve mastered those, the adventure continues with When I Am Bigger by Maria Dek, the companion book that takes counting from 10 to 100, soaring to even greater heights of imagination. Perfect for gift giving for baby shower, child’s birthday, or back-to-school for preschool or kindergarten-aged early learners.

Maria Dek holds art degrees from both the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and University of the Arts, London.
