Werewolf: The True Story of an Extraordinary Police Dog

The #1 Amazon Bestseller

Brag is a ninety-pound German Shepherd with the strength to bring down a violent man—and a mind stubborn enough to challenge the police officer holding his leash.

Former SWAT officer David Alton Hedges recounts the extraordinary partnership—and battle of wills—that begins when he takes on Brag as his police K-9. Brag is powerful, intelligent, fearless, and deeply suspicious of people. He is not an obedient machine or easy companion. Before they can face dangerous suspects together, dog and handler must first learn how to trust each other.

Against the seemingly idyllic backdrop of a California beach city, Werewolf takes readers into the hidden world of police K-9 work: nighttime manhunts, violent confrontations, desperate searches, and split-second decisions that can determine whether an officer—or his dog—comes home alive.

But this is more than a collection of police stories. It is the true account of an extraordinary animal who becomes a formidable working partner, a constant source of trouble and humor, and ultimately one of the most important figures in his handler’s life.

Told with honesty, suspense, and emotion, Werewolf is a story of courage, loyalty, loss, and the unbreakable bond that forms between a police officer and the dog willing to follow him into danger.

For readers who love true police stories, working dogs, and unforgettable accounts of the animals who change our lives.
