Weathering the Financial Storm in the MENA Region examines why financial institutions in the Middle East and North Africa did not suffer the same fate as their European and North American counterparts during the global financial crisis (2008- 2010). To study this condition in a global context, Joseph DiVanna (an economist) and Antoine Sreih (a bank executive) take a multidisciplinary approach reviewing banking regulations, banks annual reports and monetary policies from fourteen countries. Cognizant that data from institutions is often reported several quarters in arrears, the authors construct a snapshot of the state of financial institutions by aggregating data sources such as the IMF, World Bank, Bank of International Settlements, national statistical agencies, central banks, and individual institutions.
