OH MY WORDLE!: How A Daily Exchange of Wordles Between Sisters Inspired an Archive of Creative Stories

We've written 104 one-page stories using the words of 52 Wordle puzzles as the foundation for our themes. With each word of the day, there are two stories; one that I wrote using the words I chose to solve the puzzle, and one written by Constance using the words she chose. Read cover to cover or jump right into the middle. Hours of entertainment or just a few minutes to lift your spirits.

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORIES

Our purpose with this collaboration is to entertain, intrigue, and inspire our readers. Over two years into a pandemic, we are living in an odd time: relearning how to do life, take risks, and rediscover our spontaneous and unbridled joy. We hope these stories will ignite your playfulness, soothe your soul, and make you chuckle.

When noodling over a Wordle one morning, I started thinking about the millions of people playing the game that same day, seeking the identical word in six guesses. I became fascinated with the idea that so many of us could arrive at the right word while using so many different words to get there. Different journeys ending in one destination.

I began writing daily stories using my Wordle words in the order in which they flowed, initially to jump start my creative juices in the morning, after, of course, playing Wordle. I’d send the puzzles to Constance, who hadn’t yet begun playing Wordle, and it became a daily connection point in our mutual love of words.

With a dozen stories written, I shared the idea of putting this book together with Constance. Each of us would create stories based on the flow of our words for the same day. Constance agreed and voila! “Oh My Wordle!” was born.

Short, sweet, funny, sassy, outrageous, poignant, and irreverent — there is something for everyone within these pages. Life is random and beautiful, unpredictable and sometimes painful. Millions of us play Wordle daily. While our words and our stories may not be the same, we are all working toward the same answer.
