About The Book: "A Vocabulary of the Kashmírí Language" is a pioneering linguistic work by William Jackson Elmslie, published in 1872. The book comprises two parts: Kashmírí-English and English-Kashmírí, designed to facilitate communication and understanding between English speakers and the Kashmírí populace. Elmslie's dedication to the region and its people is evident in his effort to document and translate the local language. This dictionary not only served as a practical tool for missionaries and officials but also contributed to the preservation of Kashmírí linguistic heritage. About The Author: William Jackson Elmslie (1832-1872) was a Scottish Presbyterian doctor who worked as a medical missionary in Kashmir and Punjab from 1865 until his death.
