Come as a Visitor, Leave as a Friend: The Ordinary Magic of a Spiritualist Church

Step through the doors of a modest Scottish bowling club and find yourself somewhere unexpected. By day it’s just a hall, but on service nights it becomes something far more—a place of welcome, connection, and quiet wonder.

In this heartfelt book, Donna Barnett invites you into the world of a Spiritualist church as she first discovered it. There are no crystal balls or gothic theatrics here—just raffle tickets, hymn books, laughter, and the extraordinary comfort of messages from beyond.

With warmth and honesty, Donna shares how this simple community space became a sanctuary, weaving together the history of Spiritualism with her own journey of belonging. She reveals the ordinary details—a hymn sung slightly off-key, a tray of biscuits passed around—that create the extraordinary feeling of hope, love, and friendship that keeps people returning, week after week.

This is a book about:

• The real, lived experience of a Spiritualist church

• The comfort of community and connection

• Finding magic in the ordinary

• How the smallest rituals, raffles, hymns, cans of juice, become part of something sacred

If you’ve ever wondered what happens inside a Spiritualist church, or if you’ve longed for a story that celebrates the beauty of belonging, this book will welcome you in.
