Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

letterpress title prefixing the pages of descriptive text followed by 60 plates, each with its own imprint; lightly toned with the occasional spot, mild offsetting, pp. 34, oblong 8vo, publisher's green moire cloth, yellow printed label to upper cover, (new?) blue endpapers; label a little eroded, some light damage and possible restoration at the (darkened) spine, good. Sixty superb views of the Lake District by William Green (b. 1760), expertly etched to capture both the close detail and hazy distant vistas of the low and high peaks. He was a keeper of alternative place names and he 'railed against the loss of an older world [.] he depicts buildings unaltered from the seventeenth century, longhouses with timber mullions, fire windows and wrestler slated roofs drenched in moss and ferns' (ibid). (See: Deborah Walsh: 'A Man before his Time', Cumbria and Lakeland Walker, November 2025, 48-51).…
