To the verso of the title page stating that this is a Philip E. Lilienthal book. He was associate director and editor of the California Press. His imprint honours special books to commemorate his work which was marked by dedication to young authors and to high standards in the field of Asian studies. His friends and family have, after his death endowed the Lilienthal Fund which enables the press to publish under this imprint selected books in a way that reflects the taste of a beloved editor. Philip's signature is there in blue ink but as he died in 1984, it is almost certainly a facsimile. Jamieson paints a portrait of twentieth-century Vietnam. Against the background of traditional Vietnamese culture, he takes us through the saga of modern Vietnamese history and Western involvement in the country, from the coming of the French in 1858 through the Vietnam War and its aftermath. Throughout his analysis, he allows the Vietnamese to speak for themselves through poetry, fiction, essays, newspaper editorials and reports of interviews and personal experiences. Artikel-Nr.
