Twelfth Night. Dieser Artikel ist nicht verfügbar.Twelfth Night

"Twelfth Night" is one of William Shakespeare's most celebrated comedies, blending elements of romance, satire, and mistaken identity into a masterful narrative. Set in the kingdom of Illyria, the story follows Viola, a young woman shipwrecked and separated from her twin brother, Sebastian. To survive, she disguises herself as a young man named Cesario and enters the service of Duke Orsino. This decision sparks a complex web of unrequited love: Orsino pining for the Countess Olivia, Olivia falling for the disguised Viola, and Viola herself secretly loving Orsino.

Complementing this central plot is a vibrant subplot featuring the household of Olivia, where the pompous steward Malvolio becomes the target of a clever prank orchestrated by Sir Toby Belch, Maria, and the fool Feste. Through these interconnected storylines, Shakespeare explores themes of gender roles, class, and the nature of desire. "Twelfth Night" remains a cornerstone of English literature, renowned for its lyrical language, melancholic undertones, and enduring humor. This work stands as a profound exploration of the "madness" of love and the human capacity for both folly and reconciliation.
