This is an account of a trip up the Orinoco river and across the Amazon basin in which the author discovered that poisonous snakes and life-threatening diseases were not the greatest hazards on such a journey - his photographer and the Spanish and Indian crew were the most volatile elements. Redmond O'Hanlon is the author of "Into the Heart of Borneo", a journey on which he was accompanied by the poet James Fenton, who swore afterwards that he would never travel with O'Hanlon again.. NOTA: El libro no está en español, sino en inglés.

Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. In Trouble Again. Slightly sunned spine to D/J. After spending two months travelling through the primary rain forests of Borneo, the author thought a four-month trip up the Orinoco River and across the Amazon Basin would pose no particular problem. He was wrong. The re-reading of his nineteenth-century heroes, Humboldt and Russel Wallace and Bates, gave comprehensive indications of the natural hazards. Some qwere almost reassuringly familiar from his time in Borneo: amoebic and bacillary dysenteries, fevers of several colours, cholera, rabies, hepatitis. And there were others: the fearsome AIDS-like Chagas' disease; river-blindness, leishmaniasis; and the prowling dangers of jaguars, anacondas, and the tookpick-fish. But the story which emerges of O'Hanlon's journey through the Venezuelan Amazonas is that of an entirely different hazard: the human factor. In his insatiable ornithologist's quest for novelty, and the single-minded desire to find a route through uncharted dendritic rivers, the author finds it is his photographer and his Spanish and Indian crew who are the most volatile elements - even more so than the Yanomami tribesmen they come across, reputdely the 'most violent people on earth'.
