Touched by the Infinite Mystery continues a family legacy of storytelling that began on a Southern porch where the author’s parents and grandparents spun tales of Carolina farm life, missionary childhoods in Brazil, and adventures drawn from a minister-father’s vivid imagination. Those early narratives sparked a lifelong passion for exploring the world—and for sharing the wonder found along the way.
This collection gathers twenty of the author’s most compelling stories, arranged in three evocative realms. “Above the Earth” reflects on the night sky and the astonishing revelations of modern cosmology, inviting readers to consider humanity’s small yet meaningful place within a vast universe. A speculative tale concludes the section with a vision of humans journeying to a new world among the stars.
“On the Earth” returns to the landscapes we inhabit and traverse: a mystical encounter in Death Valley, a meeting with an angelic stranger on a Washington trail, and a transformative trip with college students into the heart of Appalachia.
Finally, “In the Earth” ventures into the depths of wild, untouched caves. These gripping accounts include close brushes with death, discoveries eerily foretold in dreams, and moments of breathtaking underground beauty—pilgrimages that reveal both the gifts of darkness and the enduring pull of the unknown.
Blending adventure, reflection, and the timeless art of oral tradition, Touched by the Infinite Mystery invites readers into a world where each story opens another door to wonder.
