The Therapeutic Home. Dieser Artikel ist nicht verfügbar. The Therapeutic Home

Every children's home says it is warm, safe and child centred. The question is what happens at ten past eleven on a Friday night, when the house is loud, the plan has already changed once, one adult is frightened and another feels blamed, and the child in front of them is rejecting every offer of help.

That is where a culture actually shows itself. And that is where most training quietly stops being useful.

The Therapeutic Home begins in that gap. It is not a book about being kinder. It is a book about what happens inside an adult in the seconds before they speak, and why that hidden sentence decides almost everything that follows.

At its centre is the Five Anchors of Therapeutic Care, an original framework developed by Fabjan Pepaj across years of leading children's homes in England: See, Sense, Shape, Share and Sustain. It is not another poster for the office wall. It is a way of standing inside complexity without losing the boundary, and it changes what an adult does at the bedroom door.

You will find yourself asking uncomfortable questions.

• Why does the same limit heal one child and humiliate another?

• Why do teams that agree with every word of therapeutic care still produce homes that children experience as cold?

• What is the difference between a record that protects a child and a record that will one day wound the adult that child becomes?

• What is the real reason a boundary fails, and why is it almost never the reason written in the incident report?

• What must a team be able to say out loud, if it is not going to act it out instead?

Inside this handbook

• Seventeen chapters on stress and regulation, attachment, the meaning of behaviour, PACE, co regulation and safer crisis response, boundaries, shame and repair, relational safeguarding, transitions, formulation, recording, reflective supervision, the emotional life of a team, and leadership that can evidence its impact

• Twelve ready to run team workshops that turn every idea into a session you can facilitate on your next shift

• Thirteen copiable Field Pages that turn reflection into a plan, a record and a review that will hold up to scrutiny

• One shared language for keyworkers, seniors, deputy managers, Registered Managers and Responsible Individuals

This is a handbook to be argued with, written in, and carried into supervision. It is written for everyone preparing for inspection who suspects that compliance alone has never once made a child feel safe.

Therapeutic care is not a personality type. It is a discipline. Very few homes practise it. This book shows you exactly where yours is currently standing.

Read the first chapter. You will not hear a bedroom door the same way again.
