The Gulf of Mexico has inspired countless writers and artists since Cabeza de Vaca first set foot on the Texas shore. Here nine contemporary artists present their vivid and eloquent impressions of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Buck” Schiwetz and Michael Frary; the stormy oils of Everett Spruce; the haunting dunes, water, and sky by Dan Wingren; Al Barnes’s imaginatively captured boats; Herb Booth’s landscapes and skies full of birds; and Harold Phenix’s charming shore scenes of bait camps, oil rigs, and shrimp ports---all add up to a splendid tribute to the beauty and variety of the Texas Coast.

Leon Hale’s introduction brings alive the history, geography, and folklore of the region, and Ann Holmes’s foreword looks at the similarities and differences to be found in the artists’ views of the Coast.
