Inhaltsangabe: Detractors of Civil Engineering are invited to look up 'Boring' in the Yellow pages where it says 'see Civil Engineers'. This could not be applied to the author who has never been known to pass up the opportunity for a witty and amusing anecdote. And so it is with this book, a compilation of hilarious vignettes of life in the pursuit of point scoring in the construction industry. All the characters are fictitious although it seems that I knew every one of them. So it is with all the situations. I read the text in one sitting and I am sure that many more than just civil engineers will find that they can't put it down. Roy Stoner, FICE, Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering, Southampton University.
The author's experience of working in and from Consulting Engineers' Design Offices in the post-war period has been well remembered and the anecdotes described typify many such happenings. The accounts of the various personal relationships of the principal characters are set against the context of the legislation under which local government and similar projects were engineered at that time - and illustrate how different such matters are today.
