Beschreibung:

This book is different from the normal Felicitation volumes which often, at least in India, consist of indiscriminately collected articles. Instead, this volume has the gist of twenty-two updated Ph.D theses out of the twenty-five completed under the guidance of Prof. v.N. Misra, former Director of Daccan College Post-Graduate & Research Institute. The area covered comprises India, Bangladesh and Nepal, and the subjects covered are Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolothic, Chalcolithic, rock art, Harappan Civilization, Historical archaeology, bronzes, ceramics, zooarchaeology and ethnoarchaeology. A volume of this kind is useful to all students of archaeology. It makes available to them the kind of research that has been carried out at the world famous Institute of Archaeology \'Deccan College\'. About the Author: Dr. Alok Kanungo was born in Orissa and grew up in close contact with many tribal communities of Eastern and north-eastern India. His early childhood experiences led him to eventually focus on the archaeology and ethnographic study of tribal and ancient technology. He has worked in many areas where it is difficult to say where anthropology or history stop and archaeology begins. He has studied and documented traditional glass bead making areas in many regions of India. He has carried out excavation at Kopia, and ancient glass manufacturing site in Uttar Pradesh, to understand the history of glass in India. He has published extensively on the subject of glass and glass bead production, and written on edited six books and more than two dozens research articles in various journals.
