The newest local history book published by the Little Compton Historical Society shares nine detailed house histories exploring the historic properties included in the Society's September 17, 2022 Historic House Tour. The histories present not just the chain of ownership of each property but also engaging stories about the people who lived and worked in each house from the late 1690s to the present day. They include Revolutionary War veterans, newly-emancipated people, successful merchants, resourceful widows, children, Portuguese immigrants, and even a playboy drug smuggler. The book was co-written by LCHS staff and community volunteers and includes dozens of full-color illustrations from the Historical Society's collection and shared by local residents. The final chapter, by Marian Pierre-Louis provides step-by-step instructions for doing your own house history in Little Compton. The properties in this collection of house histories are: Brownell Farm - West Main Road The Church House & Spite Tower - Adamsville The Kempton House - Warren's Point Little Compton Quaker Meeting House - West Main Road The Manton Cellar Hole - Archaeological Site - Mullin Hill Road The Mill - West Main Road Sea Bourne Mary - South of Commons The Wilbor House - West Main Road Wunnegin - West Main Road
