CHAPTER 1

ONCE UPON A time, there was a mannamed Teddy and a woman named Linda.Teddy and Linda were married and their last namewas Wigglesworth. The Wigglesworths had a sonnamed David. David Wigglesworth was five yearsold.

CHAPTER 2

THE WIGGLESWORTHS LIVED in a towncalled Long Island. Long Island was close toNew York City which is called "The Big Apple".

CHAPTER 3

DAVID WIGGLESWORTH'S NICKNAMEwas Davy. David's mom, dad, friends andteacher always called him by his nickname, Davy.Davy was very bright for his young age. Whenhe was three years old, Davy could count to 100.When Davy was five years old, he learned how toread children's books. Teddy and Linda were soproud of their son.

CHAPTER 4

MRS. WHITE WAS Davy's first gradeteacher at Public School 112. She wasa very good teacher. All of Mrs. White students,always did well in school each and every year. Thiswas going to be Davy's second year at school. Davyloved school. He always sat in the first row and inthe first seat of his class.

CHAPTER 5

WHEN MRS. WHITE took attendance inher class, she would call each of herstudents by their nickname. Mrs. White wouldstart by saying:

CHAPTER 6

WHEN THEY HEARD their name calledin class, all of her students would say "Iam here Mrs. White!"

CHAPTER 7

ALL OF MRS. White student's knew thatbefore any work was done in class, shewould take attendance.

CHAPTER 8

DAY AFTER DAY, week after week, andmonth after month, Mrs. White would takeattendance.

CHAPTER 9

ONE DAY, MRS. White had to go to thedentist, and was absent from school. Anew teacher, Mrs. Green, was in Mrs. White's classfor the day. Mrs. Green did not know any of Mrs.White's students by their nickname. Mrs. Greentook attendance from the sheet of paper on theteacher's desk in the class room. Mrs. Green calledeveryone by their first and last name.

CHAPTER 10

"Elizabeth Tate"

Liz said "I am here."

"Thomas Jones"

Tom said "I am here."

"Rebecca Smith"

Becky said "I am here."

"William Clark"

Will said "I am here."

"Susan Beck"

Sue said "I am here."

CHAPTER 11

"Joseph Edmonds"

Joe said "I am here."

"David Wigglesworth"

Davy said "I am here".

CHAPTER 12

WHEN ALL OF Davy's classmatesheard Mrs. Green call his last name,Wigglesworth they all began to laugh out loud."Wigglesworth, what a funny name." Everyone saidWigglesworth sounds so funny. Tom even stoodup from his classroom seat and did a funny wiggledance.

CHAPTER 13

MRS. GREEN TOLD all of the studentsto settle down and to stop making funof David's last name. Liz, Tom, Becky, Will, Sue,and Joe all became quite. All of them still had asmile on their faces because of Davy's last nameWigglesworth. Davy looked very sad because allof his friends laughed when they heard Mrs. Greensay his last name Wigglesworth.

CHAPTER 14

DAVY ASKED MRS. Green if he could sit inthe back of the class and in the last seatfor the day. Mrs. Green replied "yes David if youwant to sit in the back of the class, you can." Davypicked up his books and pencils and walked slowlyto the back of the classroom. Davy had never sat inthe back of the class before.

CHAPTER 15

WHEN IT WAS time for lunch, Davy'sentire class still made fun of his lastname Wigglesworth. Davy did not say a singleword! He just continued to eat his lunch not payingthem any mind.

CHAPTER 16

AT THREE O'CLOCK, on the school bus,all of Davy's classmates still made funof his last name. Davy did not say anything! Hecontinued to look out the school bus window.When Davy walked off of the school bus, he lookedso sad. Davy's mom, dad and school bus driver,Mr. Bob, knew something was wrong.

CHAPTER 17

DAVY'S MOM, LINDA and dad, Teddyasked why he looked so sad. Davy told hisparents everything that happened in the classroom,the lunch room and on the school bus.

CHAPTER 18

DAVY SAID

all made fun of our last name when the newteacher, Mrs. Green, took attendance."

CHAPTER 19

DAVY'S MOM AND Dad gave him a big hugand said "any time you have a problem, it isalways good to tell us or an adult. We are going tocall your teacher, Mrs. White, and tell her what youhave told us."

CHAPTER 20

DAVY'S MOM AND Dad spoke with Mrs.White over the telephone and told hereverything that happened at school. Mrs. Whitetold Mr. and Mrs. Wigglesworth "I am going to callMrs. Cooper the Principal and let her know whathappened at school today."

CHAPTER 21

WHEN MRS. COOPER, the Principal,heard what happened at school, she wasvery upset. Mrs. Cooper, the Principal, called all ofDavy's classmates' parents over the telephone.

CHAPTER 22

CHAPTER 23

MRS. COOPER, THE Principal, also calledDavy's parents, Mrs. Green, the newteacher, and Mr. Bob, the school's bus driver.Everyone was to report to the Principal's officeat 9:00am the next morning. Mrs. Cooper, thePrincipal, also wanted all of the students includingDavy in her office.

CHAPTER 24

THE NEXT DAY at 9:00 O'clock, Mrs. Cooper,the Principal, met with the parents, teachers,Bob the bus driver and the students in her office.

CHAPTER 25

MRS. COOPER, THE Principal, also madean announcement over the loud speakerto all of the students in P.S. 112. She said "if anyoneever has a problem, always tell an adult. It could beyour parents, a teacher, a principal, a school busdriver, a policeman or a police woman."

CHAPTER 26

FROM THAT DAY on,

MRS. COOPER, THE Principal, posted twosigns in every classroom.
