Pat St. Pierre tackles difficult situations fraught with emotional time-bombs in her new chapbook Not As It Seems. She portrays little snapshots of life, love, and memories that we all experience as we journey through life. They are interspersed with observations of the simple pleasures of nature—a strutting tom turkey surrounded by his family, a solitary observant owl, and other vignettes of different seasons. Her poems, though tinged with sadness, ultimately offer hope.

Pat St. Pierre’s Not As It Seems is a haunting collection that examines beneath the surfaces to expose secrets and illusions. Some are from the natural world—branches that sparkle like crystals on an icy day transform back to ordinary and bare. Others are human—shadows, memories, and ghosts. We follow St. Pierre “through rugged terrain” and are altered by the experience.
