Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. First Edition. New York: William Morrow & Company, 1997. First edition, 1997, signed. A journey through the contemporary South, looking back at the Civil Rights Movement and the role it has played in the life of the author and his contemporaries. Dent was raised in New Orleans of the 1930s and 1940s - a generation before the Movement made it legally easier for African Americans to become fully recognized members of American society in the South. This copy is inscribed by the author to Wesley Akin Hotchkiss - a clergyman and trustee of Tougaloo College in Mississippi. The inscription reads: To Wesley Hotchkiss / Wes, this book is an extension of the Mississippi Oral History you supported. I will always appreciate that [?] your continual interest. Hope you're doing fine, Tom Dent, March 1997". In addition, there is an engraved card laid in loosely at the front that was apparently sent out after the author's 1998 funeral - "The family of Thomas Covington Dent acknowledges with grateful appreciation your gracious kindness and heartwarming expressions of sympathy during our bereavement". Gray boards with black cloth spine, 399 pages, illustrated dustjacket. The book looks and feels new and unread, with no other names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is in similar new condition. Very clean copy. Inscribed by The Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
