This Anthology of 72 music examples, consisting of the Teacher's Manual, Pupil's Questions, Music Book and two Recordings on CD or Cassettes, is intended to provide comprehensive resource materials for the listening component of the GCSE music syllabuses. The extracts have been selected especially to illustrate the periods, styles and rudiments of music encompassed within the syllabuses, and the four components of the publication produced to ensure maximum assistance to the teacher in the classroom.

David Bowman was for nearly twenty years Director of Music at Ampleforth College where he still teaches. He was Chief Examiner for the University of London Schools of Examination Board (now London Examinations) from 1982 - 1998. He now spends more time with his family, horses and dogs. David Bowman's publications include the "London Anthology of Music" (University of Londo School Examinations Board, 1986, "Sound Matters" (co-authored with Paul terry, Schott, 1993), "Aural Matters in Practice" (co-authored with Paul Terry, Schott, 1994), "Analysis Matters" (Rhinegold, Volume 1 1997, Volume 2 1998) and numerous analytical articles for "Music Teacher". He is a contributor to "the Collins Classical Music Encyclopedia" edited by Stanley Sadie (2000).
Bruce Cole studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music with Harrison Birtwistle and has pursued a joint career as a composer and teacher. He has taught at most levels from pre-school to postgraduate including in-service training and has experience of working with young people with special needs and young offenders. His work as a composer has included orchestral commissions, work in the music industry, film, television, theatre, dance and new circus. He has been composer-in-residence to both the Inner London Education Authority and Lewisham Academy of Music and he led the 1996 BBC Proms Education project. Bruce Cole is currently Fellow in Community Music at the University of York and Principal Examiner in Composition to the Edexcel Foundation London Examinations.
