Social disorganization here may be conceived as a broad, general and all inclusive term tending to describe some of the consequences that have emanated from planned development in India. This social disorganization can further be analysed on a broader canvas of political disorder, accentuated by economic malfunctioning and cultural incohesion of the social structures. The medieval society in India blissfully clung to the romanticism of ancient values of culture and when planners of democratic development suddenly exposed to it to the so called modernity of the institutions of the west, found itself in a quagmire of contradictory goals and self-defeating efforts. The social and psychological ingredients of what social scientists define as crisis exist in the contemporary Indian society, e.g. perceptions of generalized social and cultural anomie, an acute sense of disorientation both among the intelligentsia and the people, unintended structural shifts and imbalances in society rendering older paradigms of national development open to doubts or even total rejection by some and the breakdown in the national consensus on social and cultural design of society. Viewed from all these perspectives the present book tries to explore varied dimensions of present Indian society. Printed Pages: 420. Buchnummer des Verkäufers 33560
