Alice Bradley Sheldon became the reclusive, enigmatic genius James Tiptree, Jr. His adventures and writing—gleaned from the details of Sheldon’s life—were convincingly masculine; when Sheldon finally revealed herself, her ruse was met with both surprise and delight.
