Über diesen Titel

Acclaim for "Xtreme: The Edge": "Written in short, episodic bursts awash with snarling dialogue intercut with bathos, this pacily energetic first novel is highly readable" - "Book for Keeps" magazine. Following the success of "Xtreme: The Edge", Ben Bo turns from snow-boarding to surfing in this hip and pacy read. Jonah, a fifteen year old surfer living in Western Ireland, is struggling to make sense of his life. Discovering that he has a twin living in America changes Jonah's life completely - and takes him into the very eye of the storm. This is a terrifically pacy adventure, incredibly readable. The Author: As well as "Extreme: the Edge", Vivian Richardson (Ben Bo) is the author of Surf Shredder, and the illustrator of "The Extraordinary Adventures of Joe Sloop", also published by Bloomsbury. Vivian Richardson lives in London with his wife who is a teacher.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 4-8-A lot of sound and fury signify an overwritten/overwrought tale. It is a surfing adventure, set primarily in Ireland, in which Jonah has a rather miserable existence. His father is notorious as the town drunk by night, employee of the cannery by day. Jonah often skips school, finding solace in the magnificent surf at Skullcrack, a slab of granite reef that catches waves off the Atlantic. His only friend, Megan, defends him when others ridicule his strange behavior and his stories about seeing ghostly figures in the Irish mist. The unhealthy status quo is broken when a mysterious stranger arrives plying Jonah's father with alcohol and giving Jonah an ancient bone inscribed with Celtic figures. His parting words warn the teen to beware of Edwin. Jonah discovers that he has a twin sister (who also loves surfing) living in the U.S. A suddenly repentant father, jubilant Jonah, and killer hurricane Edwin converge on Florida for a rather dramatic meeting of the long-separated twins. The plot is twisted in several directions, there are gaping lapses of logic, and characterizations are superficial. Surfing devotees may be disappointed by the little time spent on the waves. Reluctant readers drawn by the handsome book jacket may be lost in the protagonist's psychological struggles. For fans of the supernatural, recommend Robert Westall and Lois Duncan, the king and queen of YA suspense.

BookLovers of Bath is based in the rural idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England and actually very nearly in Bath. After 20 years of being “internet only” I have now opened a shop, Fact or Fable, in the premises of our now-closed Post Office. With over 20,000 books in stock and another 5,000 or so in the shop I run an old-fashioned book business with every book listed, graded, picked, packed and posted by my own fair hand… abetted by my Jack Russells who are really, not, helpful.
