The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, usually referred to as just The Sketch Book, is a collection of 34 essays and short stories written by Washington Irving. The collection includes two of Irving's best-known stories, attributed to the fictional Dutch historian Diedrich Knickerbocker, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle". It also marks Irving's first use of the pseudonym "Geoffrey Crayon", which he would continue to employ throughout his career.
Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Washington Irving (1783 1859) was an American author, historian and diplomat. Although settling in New York, Irving studied in Europe where he developed his literary interests and later became one of the first American writers to earn influential and critical acclaim in Europe. He s best known for his pioneering work in the Gothic genre and is the writer of famous stories including Rip Van Winkle,1819, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, 1820.
