Inhaltsangabe:
Excerpt from A Short History of England, Vol. 1 of 2
From this point of View my book has been written. It traces through a long period of time the career of a people, the greater part of Whose history is our history and Whose early struggle to Win constitutional liberty is our heritage as well as theirs. It purposes to show, indirectly, that the ideas and institutions brought by the early settlers to America were the result of centuries of growth and experience on English soil, and that the liberties of Englishmen was no meaning less phrase on the lips of those in England and America Who opposed the Stuarts in the seventeenth century. It follows the later history of the English government and people and treats of a great era of expansion and political and social transformation that is no less instructive to the students of American history than is the period that has gone before.

Reseña del editor:
Excerpt from A Short History of England, Vol. 1 of 2
For services at all times loyally and efficiently rendered in the preparation of manuscript and the reading of proof, I owe a lasting debt to my wife, which I can repay but scantily in a grateful and loving acknowledgement.
