To escape the ongoing genocide on his planet, Captain Hyle builds himself a spaceship by salvaging parts and using one of the few materials available to him: Wood. He names his ship the Nakba. But whether the Nakba will work or not can only be proven by one thing: setting sail and blasting off into space. With his crew of resistance fighters he leads them into a life of space piracy, to fight back against their oppressors and deliver aid to their people. But could this space coffin be more powerful than anyone predicted? Recognising this power, the imperial client state of Polemikos seeks to destroy the Nakba, and the ship becomes embroiled in the Polemi's military and public-relations counteroffensives. Will the Hyle and his crew succeed against the military might of their imperial oppressors in a ship made of wood? The Ship Made of Wood is the second novel of The Planet of the Dispossessed series, but it is also a stand-alone novel, and can be read without need to read the first book. It is a novel of piracy, resistance and space adventure, based on European settler colonialism of indigenous lands. Contains violence.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Lydia is an online apparition who frequents the Fediverse and you can follow her there (currently) at: @LydiaConwell@todon.nl. She is just some nobody with an art school background, who lives in London, writes stories in her spare time, owns a cat and loves noisy, avant-garde music. Lydia often writes futurist worlds, which she describes as Synehitopian - that is, a continuation of our current political and technological landscape rather than a strictly dystopian future. Her stories explore manipulation, control and power dynamics, and people's willingness to succumb to the rule of corporate hegemony. You can check out her nonsense on her Psychic Drool blog
