The Shepherd Dinner brings families together to share a simple meal and step into the wonder of the first Christmas night. Rooted in an ancient tradition begun by early Christians, this read-aloud invites children to imagine the shepherds beneath the starry sky and experience the joy of welcoming the newborn King. On a quiet, starry evening, humble shepherds gather around a fire to share a meal of flatbreads, olives, lentils, and warm tea. But when the sky bursts with light and an angel announces the birth of a Savior, they set off in awe to find the newborn King. Kneeling before Him, they offer what they have: their food and their hearts. Told in gentle rhyme and rich imagery, The Shepherd Dinner helps families slow down, share in gratitude, and remember that even the simplest gifts given with love can honor the greatest of Kings.
