"Shame Unmasked is a brave, challenging, and necessary work to anyone who really wants to live a life of freedom. This book is a helpful companion for the journey." - Fr. Richard Rohr, OFMDo you ever feel like your own worst enemy? Are you concerned about your anger, depression, or self-hate? Are you ready to name the hidden driver behind these destructive decisions? It’s name is shame.Shame masks itself to avoid detection so it can operate inside you unhindered. You might know it as your internal critic, fear, perfectionism or poor self-esteem. Taken to extremes, it can be the root of such destructive conditions as narcissism, racism, or hatred for self and others. In Shame Unmasked, Rick Patterson exposes powerful ways for you to disarm that subconscious driver and get to driver’s seat of your own life. You will learn:•The power of naming this hidden source•How to make peace with this inner driver•How to recognize and remove your internal roadblocks•Overcome shame’s corrosive influence on your life•How to make positive decisions for a healthier life•Skills and tools to get and stay strong in your new lifeIf words like shame, failure, narcissism, and regret haunt you, hear what people are saying about “Shame Unmasked”:“Just the recognition that someone else out there has thought things only I thought I had struggled with drew me in as he helped connect the dots.”“It helps you extinguish the demeaning voice of the inner critic and lovingly accept your humanness.”“The author leads readers to recognize this demon in their own lives, which is the first step in learning how to respond to life’s challenges in a nondestructive, more compassionate way.”“Patterson helps us to "disarm" the shame in our life one moment at a time.”“…insightful, reassuring, and truly helpful. Patterson courageously shares his own struggles, and intelligently offers some reasons and resources to find greater freedom.”“The word that comes to mind...is hope.”“Did the book change my life? Yes it did. If you breathe air, and have human DNA, then this book will help you fight a monster we all face.”“In this book he clearly models how to deal with shame through vulnerability.”“Rick Patterson simply tells his story honestly, and in so doing draws the reader in to see the comparisons and contrasts with their own sense of shame.”“I'm not really the 'self help book' type, but I found Rick's book on Shame or 'Not Enoughness' to be excellent and really helpful in all aspects of life.”
