We just lost our place at the top of the food chain. Man is just meat.

Something is hunting in the Scottish Highlands — and science has no name for it.

When the stripped bones of its prey are discovered in a remote Highland glen, a small village falls under siege to a creature of terrifying power. It strikes without warning. It kills without hesitation. And once it has tasted human flesh, it will not stop.

Thomas Walker — wildlife specialist, former big game hunter, a man still haunted by the lion that killed his wife in Kenya's Tsavo — has returned to the Highlands to escape the past. But something has made the mountains its home, and now it is picking off the people he loves one by one. As the body count rises across the village of Cannich and the creature tightens its grip on the glen, Walker must face not only the animal, but a ruthless human enemy who wants him destroyed.

Because this is no ordinary big cat. Rooted in the real mystery of Britain's phantom big cats — nearly 2,000 reported sightings every year, from Bodmin to Dartmoor, origin and identity still unknown — Shadow Beast offers a terrifying, scientifically grounded, and utterly believable explanation. One that will rewrite what you thought you knew about what hunts in the dark.
