"Self-ligating bracket" is the term used for brackets that incorporate a locking mechanism that hold the archwire in the bracket slot. Self-ligation Brackets were introduced to orthodontics about 7 decades ago as Russel lock edgewise bracket by Stolzenberg. From past two decades, there has been a boost in manufacturing and releasing of self-ligating appliances with active or passive self-ligation modes.The use of self-ligating brackets has been increased over time. Hence, the book comprises of a complete overview of the need for developing the self-ligating brackets, their historical perspective and evolution, classification and types of brackets and their characteristics and features.
