"Scanlon's War 1941-1945" is a different WW II story. It is hilarious and dramatic, at times graphic and not for the faint of heart. George R. Scanlon is a product of the depression, toughened by three years on a Pennsylvania oil pipe line crew, and tossed into a world wide conflict. He provides an intimate enlisted man's view of WW II military life and in particular the contributions of draftees from rural America's working class families.

His adventures stretch from a pre-Pearl Harbor draft notice to a Tech Sergeant's experiences as a P-38 mechanic with the 94th Fighter Sqadron in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He came ashore with Eisenhower and Patton in the Operation Torch invasion of North Africa carrying the company safe and trying not to drown. Scanlon tells it exactly like it was and you have no doubt he is telling the truth. He is a natural storyteller with an amazing memory for detail.

Travel with him as he tells of his pals, his enemies, his loves and his adventures away from home.

Scanlon has been working on his memories for more than ten years, assisted by Jack MacMillan and Jim McClure, two Penn State retirees. This is his first printed book but not his last. He has two more manuscripts in the works, tracing his early years in Kane and Franklin, PA and his rowdy pipe line days. He is 81 years old and still a maverick and free thinker.

Scanlon still resides in Franklin, Pennslyvania where he has lived for the past 78 years. This book is dedicated to his late wife Carolyn Scanlon who, before she died on November 25, 1995, encouraged him to finish the book.
