Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Monica Belcourt is the Director of the School of Human Resources Management at York University. She is the Past President of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO), past Director of the School of Administrative Studies and the founding Director of the Graduate Program in Human Resources Management at York University. Her research is grounded in the experience she gained as Director of Personnel for CP Rail, Director of Employee Development, National Film Board, and as a functional HR specialist for the federal government. Dr. Belcourt alternated work with graduate school, earning a MA in Psychology, a M. Ed in adult education, and a PhD in business. She also holds the designation CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional). She has taught HR at McGill, Concordia, Universite du Quebec a Montreal and York, and given seminars for HR professionals and executives. She created Canada's first degrees in human resources management: B.HRM (honours) and a Masters in HRM (www.atkinson.yorku.ca/mhrm/). Monica is the Series Editor for the Nelson Canada Series in HRM, lead author of Strategic Human Resources Planning, and is the lead author of the best selling book, Managing Human Resources, published by Nelson (www.belcourt.nelson.com). She is a frequent commentator on HRM issues for CTV, Canada AM, CBC, The Report on Business, The Globe and Mail, The Canadian HR Reporter and other media. Kenneth McBey is a professor of Human Resources Management at York University. His research and teaching draw on his earlier career as an infantry officer in the Canadian army, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel and commanding officer of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. Throughout his military career, Professor McBey held a wide variety of command and staff appointments, including those in human resources- related areas such as recruiting, operations and training, and personnel officer (adjutant). This real-life testing of HR theories has proved invaluable to his work in the academic realm. Professor McBey earned an Honours B.A. in political economy and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto , and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in management from the Schulich School of Business at York University. Professor McBey has served as director of the graduate program in Human Resources Management at York University, where he ran the executive masters in HRM, as well as the Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in HRM. He teaches a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, including human resources planning; leadership and management skills; recruitment, selection, and performance appraisal; training and development; staffing organizations; organizational behaviour; and organizational theory. He has been a visiting professor at the graduate programs in human resources and management at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland; the Australian National University, Canberra; the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand; and the Norwegian School of Business, Oslo. Professor McBey is active in a wide variety of community and voluntary associations, and he serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations. He was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal by the Government of Canada for making a "significant contribution to his fellow citizens, community and to Canada."
