- Buch 3 von 3: The Rune Master Saga
In 9th century Norway, 16-year-old Glyndr rejects the marriage expected of her seeking instead to learn the magical powers of the runes of Odin. In the first book, The Rune Master Saga, the village rune master agrees to train Glyndr in the rune skills. They soon find themselves challenging an evil rune master helping King Harald to become the sole ruler of Norway. The tyranny of the king and his interference with the trade convince Glyndr and her trader brother Torvald to leave Norway and join others looking for new lives in the lands discovered to the west. They follow the Norse trade route to Iceland and the Green Land where other problems challenge Glyndr's rune skills.
In this sequel, The Rune Master Saga II: Beyond Green Land, Torvald and Glyndr look for a friend stranded in a strange land. The native skraelings living there believe that all strangers are evil. If their friend is to be released, Glyndr must use her rune skills to gain the support of the powerful megumoowesoo who guides the skraelings in matters of the spirit world.
Hearing of vast forests in a nearby land that they call the Forest Land (Labrador), Torvald and his friend travel there to establish a lumber trade in the new world. The powerful spirits of the land oppose their mission. Glyndr’s attempts to use her rune skills are unsuccessful in removing the threat of a dangerous fire caused by a powerful spirit, and she must seek the wisdom of Odin to convince the spirits to trust the traders.
In the final story, Glyndr and Torvald must return to Norway to help their brother free himself from the oppression of King Harald. It will need a special rune spell to accomplish this, and Glyndr seeks the help of her teacher, the village rune master, in the use of dark spells.
Those who liked this book may also be interested in the first book, The Rune Master Saga, that tells more of Glyndr's rune skill training and her early adventures as a rune master.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
With this book, Rod Baker continues the stories of Glyndr, a young rune master in 9th century Norway, and Torvald, her older brother and a Norse trader. The first book, The Rune Master Saga, is available at Amazon.com and CreateSpace as a paperback as well as in eBook format on Amazon.
In both books, Baker uses his research and non-fiction history writing background to create a believable past while having fictional characters entertain readers. His books introduce the young adult reader to Norse mythology and the fiction of the rune master and rune spells with a story background rich in historical fact regarding the Norse trade exploration to Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland, and Labrador and the battlefield exploits of King Harald to make himself sole ruler of all Norway.
While written for young adult readers, adult readers will appreciate the mentoring relationship between Glyndr and Caryn, the wise village rune master who helped raise Glyndr as a child and taught Glyndr the rune skills. The exploits and adventures of Glyndr’s brother as trader and new world explorer entertain all readers whether he is battling storms at sea or matching wits with King Harald and his men.
Baker plans to keep writing Glyndr and Torvald stories, but is also interested in exploring new fiction-writing directions.
