"Riviera Revenge" picks up where "Riviera Terminus" left off, but nearly eight years later. The world has changed and another major geopolitical event is imminent, the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The lives of Lucas, George, Nathalie, Amra, and J�r�me are linked already through their traumatic clash with the maniacal Vuk Racik whom they managed to kill, and therefore indirectly to his twin brother Krazicek. The build up to the Iraqi war sets the actors in motion, provoking intersections in their respective time and space which might not otherwise have occurred. It will not be long before they end up breathing down each other's necks, Krazicek bent on revenge for his brother's death, Lucas on another money laundering expedition which takes him to Costa Rica. Violence, unexpected infidelity and mayhem ensue.

CHAPTER 1

RIVIERA TERMINUS

A SERBIAN WARLORD (Vuk) and his psychopathic partner (Tomas) leave the havoc of the civil war behind and arrive on the C�te d'Azur with a pile of dirty cash, some USD 16.000.000, earned from arms deals, prostitution and drugs. Lucas, a successful private banker (and lover of the good life) reckons he can help launder it (believing initially that it is "clean" money simply avoiding tax). But his hedonistic life lurches from pleasure to pain as Vuk becomes increasingly scary and the dubious origins of the money become known. Lucas struggles unsuccessfully to keep the deal under control and his drinking within limits.

While Lucas descends into an inferno of alcohol fuelled panic, an explosive cocktail of events also begins to conspire against Vuk: a young Bosnian Muslim (Faruk) based in Nice learns of his arrival and plans revenge for the murder of his family; Tomas betrays him and he (Vuk) falls in love with Faruk's beautiful sister (Amra) who wants to kill him.

But Vuk is tough and resourceful. It is touch and go to the end as to who survives and what happens to the money.

Somehow, Good triumphs over Evil and Vuk is killed by Amra in a dramatic finale on the "Grande Corniche" above Nice.

Lucas, his brother George, his assistant J�r�me, Amra and her brother Faruk share out Vuk's dirty loot between themselves, some three million USD each.

So we have a happy ending. But how happy can one be when the source of one's wealth is splattered in blood and when Vuk's fearsome twin brother, Krazicek, is alive and might come looking for revenge?

Finally, there is another USD three million sitting in a safe in Liechtenstein which J�r�me had deposited as part of the money laundering exercise. But it gets stolen by the Teubers, Lucas' wheeler-dealer banker/lawyer contacts in Liechtenstein. Should Lucas and his entourage stick their necks out again to try and get it back when they have so much already?

If it's just for the money then perhaps not. If it's a matter of principle then that's another matter!

Here's a bit more on the main characters:

Vuk Racik, wanted for crimes against humanity, is big, brutal, massively strong and highly intelligent. About 40 years old. He's a heavy drinker and a heavy consumer of prostitutes whom he likes to slap around. Needless to say he is totally unscrupulous, bordering on the sadistic.

Tomas, Vuk's sidekick, is apparently very loyal to Vuk but he becomes a traitor as he eyes the cash and wants a bigger share. Vuk disposes of him with a bullet in the head.

Lucas is a nice guy (a bit too complacent), English, 42 years old and manager of the Nice branch of a Swiss private bank. A "bon vivant", he loves women and drink and boosts his income with little deals on the side. But when he meets Vuk he gets out of his depth. He lives in the fast lane but is settling down with a young French girl, Chloe.

George, Lucas' younger brother, moves from London to the Riviera to join his brother and start a new life after a motorbike accident and an amorous deception. Good looking, straightforward and sensible he initially gets a job in a brasserie and lives in Lucas' apartment. He reluctantly gets dragged into the increasingly dangerous and frightening ramifications of the business deal between Vuk and Lucas. When he gets his share of the money at the end he is the only one to express misgivings, to himself, about the fact that it is dirty. One day he might just give it away!

Nathalie is a pretty (and very sexy) French girl whom George meets in the train on the way to Nice. She has a minor role in the story except at the end when we learn that she and George decide to shack up together......would George have preferred to stay with Amra with whom he has had an affair?

J�r�me, Lucas' trusted assistant at the bank, helps him with both normal banking business and their occasional private deals. Married with children, he is energetic and fun. He is essential to helping launder Vuk's money. While doing so, Tomas attempts to murder him but he survives.

Faruk is a young Bosnian Muslim who has managed to escape the Serbian maelstrom and settle on the Riviera. He has lost all his family (except his elder sister) to the Serbian paramilitaries. Faruk saw the murderers at the scene of the crime (amongst them Vuk) and has sworn revenge. He meets George by chance one day and they become friends. One day he recognizes Vuk, seated in the brasserie where he works.

Amra, Faruk's sister, works in Strasbourg but comes down to Nice when she hears her brother has, unbelievably, seen Vuk there. She comes initially to prevent Faruk acting rashly but when she finds him in hospital, paralyzed after an "accident", she assumes the role of avenger and decides to seduce Vuk (who of course has no idea who she is) and exact a terrible punishment. She and George are lovers until she decides to return to Bosnia to give humanitarian aid to her people.

Hans and Gerhardt Teuber, cousins, are banker and lawyer respectively, based in Liechtenstein, where they help Lucas and J�r�me launder the dirty cash. Gerhardt has a power of attorney on the account used to launder Vuk's money and the key to the safe where the cash gradually accumulates......

It was their teamwork which had resulted in the poetic justice of Vuk's "live by the sword die by the sword" finale on the...
