Culler's Sporting Classics magazine, begun in 1981, features classic sporting articles selected by its editors and suggested by its readers. The 20 stories assembled here range in date from 1909 to 1986; in writers from Corey Ford, Teddy Roosevelt, Zane Grey, and William Faulkner to virtual unknowns; in subject from bird hunting to fishing; and in publication origin from Outdoor Life and Saturday Evening Post to book excerpts. Naturally, one's favorite tale may not be here, but this remains an excellent selection. Dates have little to do with classics, as proven here. This welcome addition to public libraries is a catalyst for investigating authors readers may not know about. Published locally in 1988, it is now available nationally.
