This Technical Report presents a new riparian zonation model for Europe based on satellite remote sensing and GIS techniques. Riparian zones are key ecological systems that provide a wide array of ecosystem services tosociety and the natural environment, as well as being fundamental structural elements of the European Green Infrastructure. The zonation model is based on a multi-layer approach, which takes into account a series of descriptive attributes and assigns a degree of belonging to the riparian zone class based on fuzzy membership scores. Model output has a 25 m spatial resolution and follows INSPIRE standards.
