Inhaltsangabe
This book provides an accessible, step-by-step guide to a lesser-known skill: phonetic writing. The practical application of a shorthand writing style that preserves the sounds of speech has numerous benefits. Not only does it grant users the power to record the eloquent speeches of public figures or the proceedings of popular assemblies, but also to preserve and share valuable lectures, sermons, and judicial evidence that might otherwise be lost in the sea of daily communication. While based upon the common English alphabet, this system provides greater legibility and a higher degree of brevity than traditional shorthand methods. Through dedicated practice, readers can develop the ability to write upwards of 100 words per minute, even while implementing useful abbreviations and phrases. Aspiring journalists and ambitious students seeking an efficient method to capture speech will find this book an invaluable tool.
Reseña del editor
Excerpt from The Reporter: Or Phonography Adapted to Verbatim Reporting
In addition to these inestimable advantages, Science and Religion are indebted to this inestimable art for the preservation of many valuable Lectures and Sermons, which would otherwise have been irrecoverably lost. Among the latter may be instanced those of Whitfield, whose astonishing powers could move even infidelity itself, and extort admira tion from a Chesterfield and a Hume but whose name would have floated down the stream of time, had not short-hand rescued a portion of his labours from oblivion. With so many vouchers of the truth of the remark, we can have no hesitation in stating it as our Opinion, that since the invention of no cause has contributed more to the diffusion of knowledge and the progress of refinement, we might also add, to the triumphs of liberty and the interests of religion, than the revival and improvement of this long-neglected art.
