Reiki Touch, The Essential Handbook, is authored by Judy-Carol Stewart also known as Julia Carroll. This is the 2nd edition, published in 1995, with the 1st edition published in 1988. The Reiki Touch was the 2nd book ever published about Reiki and the 2nd edition is still available. The book is clear, simple and easy to understand the illuminating healing art of Reiki Touch. It contains a taped conversation of Takata telling the story of the origins of Reiki. It also presents illustrations for hand placements, how to set up a Reiki practice, a valuable protection method and much more. Reiki Touch is gentle, yet powerful. Judy-Carol/Julia was the 35th Reiki Master in the world and has traveled globally for 25 years teaching this miraculous healing art. Julia has trained over 10,000 students with over 100 initiated as Reiki Masters. She honors Phyllis Furumoto, the granddaughter of Hawayo Takata, as the Grand Master of Reiki.

Judy-Carol Stewart aka Julia Carroll was initiated into Reiki Master by Barbara Lincoln McCullough, one of the 22 Reiki Masters trained by Hawayo Takata. With Usui, Hayashi, Takata and McCullough, Julia is fifth in the lineage of Usui Shiki Ryoho, the 3000 year old Tibetan-Buddhist healing art, with the history found in original sanskrit in the Tibetan-Buddhist sutras. Julia has designed and managed several Reiki Touch studies which have been published in medical journals, such as IMAGE, Qualitative Health Research, Blackwell Science, Ltd., Alternative Therapies, and others. Her research, lecture and seminar sites include University of Texas Health Science Center, Texas Children's Hospital, Andrew Weil, M.D., Program of Integrative Medicine, Kessler Rehabilitation in New Jersey (consultant), Harvard Community Health Program (consultant)and Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. Two of Julia's students have published books on Reiki. Libby Barnett and Pamela Miles. Julia has a Master of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science and a Post-Graduate Degree in Art Therapy. She teaches psychology at the University of Houston, in Houston, Texas.
