Local and international rehabilitation professionals and human movement, social, and engineering scientists in a range of traditional disciplines gathered in Amsterdam for the conference. Topical chapters present in turn a keynote address if there was one, oral presentations, and poster presentations. Altogether, some 120 papers cover wheeled mobility; handcycling; prosthetics and orthotics gait; aging, mobility, and chronic disease; exercise capacity; everyday physical activity; training strategies; functional electrostimulation; sports performance; running; and wheeled sports. Among specific topics are the mechanical efficiency of asynchronous hand-rim wheelchair propulsion after four weeks of practice, the power balance model for studying elite handcycling performance, walking with above-knee prosthesis, a comparison of different methods for determining overweight in spinal cord injury, genetics and exercise, inactive lifestyles in adults with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy, endurance training and improved aerobic capacity after traumatic brain injury, the effect of functional electrostimulation on impaired skin vasodilator responses to local heating in spinal cord injury, the influence of glove type on mobility performance for wheelchair rugby players, a systematic review of amputees and sports, and biomechanical analysis to classify basketball players in wheelchairs.
