Acclaimed as the RAF's most famous formation aerobatic display team, the 'Reds' - as they are affectionately known - have attracted a truly international following. Here is the story of the Red Arrows, from their tentative beginnings as the Yellowjacks flying Folland Gnats in 1964, through the formation of the Red Arrows in 1965 to their conversion to the scarlet-painted BAe Hawks that they fly today.

PETER R. MARCH is an aviation author, photojournalist and pilot. He was the editor of the Royal Air Force Yearbook for twenty-two years and has produced two special editions marking the 50th and 60th anniversaries of the Battle of Britain. Peter is the author of seventy-two aviation books, including 50 Years of the Red Arrows (The History Press), and has had nearly 8,500 original photographs published since the mid-1950s. As contributing editor, he continues to produce the Old Timers vintage, warbird and classic aircraft section in Pilot magazine.
