While 2D imaging remains adequate for most routine cases, advanced 3D modalities—particularly CBCT—have transformed the diagnostic landscape, allowing clinicians to visualize intricate canal systems and periapical anatomy with unprecedented detail. Ongoing research into MRI, ultrasonography, and functional imaging heralds the next frontier in endodontic diagnostics, potentially offering non-ionizing alternatives with superior soft-tissue resolution.
