Inhaltsangabe:

Deirdre Ramsey, the vulnerable and innocent new Countess of Ramshead, finds happiness in the seductive arms of Jared Montgomery, Marquess of Jersey, until she discovers his mysterious past and becomes suspicious of his motives for wooing her. Original.

Review:

Ramshead was more to Deirdre than just a home. It was her life and soul. Now it lay dormant as she wandered through London's brightly lit ballrooms, trying her best to hold her overflowing emotions in check. Her parents death had left her practically penniless and completely broken hearted. The vultures had come and stripped Ramshead of it's beautiful possessions, things that her fairytale-like parents had collected during their marriage. She feels desolate, melancholy, and lost. Jared Montgomery had tried to purchase Ramshead from Deirdre Ramsey to no avail. Following her to Ramshead when she flees London's dingy world, Jared is struck with Deirdre's warmth, which seems to blossom with her new lease on life. She wants to run the estate on her own, raising sheep for wool and crops for market. Jared offers the only kind of help he can, assistance to get Ramshead back on its feet. Deirdre's fear of him seems to dissipate little by little as she follows his instructions to "judge him by his actions." Deirdre begins to appreciate Jared's company, his knowledge, and his attentions. Their kisses range from gentle heat to molten lava. When they finally come together, the world spins out of control. They are drawn together, bound by their need to share with and trust in one another. Both of them hurt from wounds inflicted by those around them. Even Jared, with his hard and tough exterior, was badly abused by his previous wife, Daphne. It is not until Deirdre agrees to become his new wife that he realizes that she was not the only one missing the companionship, love, and trust that only true human attachment could provide. He promises her that he will never hurt her, that he will always be there for her, if she will just trust in him. A new world awaits Deirdre at Jared's home, Jerseyhurst. She must accept the role of wife and stand by Jared's side, trusting that all will be well. It is up to Deirdre, however, when her newly built hopes and dreams come crashing down as Jared takes on the appearance of a villain. Deirdre has to face the fact that it is perhaps her own misguided fear of being hurt that causes her the greatest pain. Jared has always been there for her, ready to catch her, hold her, and ease her pain. It all comes down to the promises they both have made.Elaine Kane writes in a wildly intoxicating manner that leaves you thirsting for more! The whole world would rock for Jared Montgomery if he asked it to! More than a romance to make your smile. Promise Me reaches into your heart and makes you sigh.Karen Ellington -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
