Inhaltsangabe
This book analyzes the moral principles of conduct and guides the reader toward establishing their own system of morality through a process of self-evaluation and self-examination. Rather than defining morality by religious or traditional standards, the author encourages the reader to consider the intentions behind an action and to assess its worthiness by considering the satisfaction or dissatisfaction one may experience in retrospect. By exploring concepts such as the social, legal, and religious sanctions that govern behavior, the author challenges the notion that morality is determined by external influences, arguing instead that our internal moral compass should be our guiding force. Thought-provoking and accessible, this book provides a framework for understanding ethical dilemmas and making informed moral decisions in our increasingly complex world.

Excerpt from Progressive Morality: An Essay in Ethics
The other remark, which will require a some what longer statement, is that, in the present treatise, Morality will be discussed as an inde pendent science, that is to say, on grounds dis tinct from religious and theological considerations. That the conceptions of Religion and Morality are intimately connected, and that, when we have constituted a system of morality on inde pendent grounds, it is inevitable that we should compare with it our religious convictions, I, of course, do not for a moment deny. Religion is more than Morality; it is the consecration and idealisation of it in a Perfect Being, whom we are constrained to revere, adore, and love. But there is a Wide difference between Religion as an aspiration of the human soul and par ticular systems of religious doctrine and worship.
