Umberto Eco (1932–2016) wrote fiction, literary criticism and philosophy. His first novel, The Name of the Rose, was a major international bestseller. Richard Dixon lives and works in Italy. His translations include Umberto Eco’s The Prague Cemetery and Inventing the Enemy, and Roberto Calasso’s Ardor and The Art of the Publisher. He was one of the translators of Giacomo Leopardi’s Zibaldone.
