It introduces reading, writing and ordering larger numbers, fractions and decimals, and extends single-digit calculation skills to working with larger numbers. The book begins with an introductory test to identify the children's knowledge of number facts such as times tables and provides a "prompt list" of useful maths vocabulary appropriate for the age range. The photocopiable activities which follow should help the children to develop a confident and flexible approach to counting and calculating mentally, offering them opportunities to develop strategies and mathematical vocabulary by writing or talking about their maths.
