Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Early American Imprint Ramsbotham and Dewees on Midwifery, 1822. Hardcover. xiv + 379 pages. Appears to be bound in the original binding, with handwritten label on the spine. Large numbers 1094 at the top of the spine. Front cover with faded blue paper over boards and the remains of intials E.B. handwritten there. Back cover is plain board; blue paper seems to have come off. Front cover held on by a strip of clear tape only (despite reinforced hinge). Back cover still attached, by reinforced hinge. Title page has a rubberstamp, Library of the New York State Medical Association. The initials J.N.S. handwritten on the top corner of the title page. Also, the abbreviation dup in pencil. The rubberstamp is repeated on the table of contents page and the first page of text. Wide margins and clear printing throughout. Dozens of cases described in medical detail. Text block in quite good condition. I can find little about John Ramsbotham, apart from this book. William Dewees, whose notes were added in the American edition, was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He wrote three books on midwifery himself, the first was published in 1824 (2 years after this one). His System of Midwifery (1824) was his most important contribution to the field. The John Carter Brown Library does not have a copy of this title. The Library of Congress has one copy. Harvard has a copy in its Rare Book Room.…
