Inhaltsangabe:

[Read by Simon Vance]

The excitement continues in Post Captain, the second installment of Patrick O'Brian's highly acclaimed Aubrey-Maturin series, following Master and Commander.

In 1803, Napoleon smashes the Peace of Amiens, and Captain Jack Aubrey, taking refuge in France from his creditors, is interned. He escapes from France, from debtor's prison, and from a possible mutiny and pursues his quarry straight into the mouth of a French-held harbor. Stephen Maturin's struggles, with himself as much as with a proud and intelligent woman, are woven into Aubrey's, straining their friendship at times to the breaking point.

Review:

The year is 1803, and that scalawag Napoleon Bonaparte has gone to war again. For Captain Jack Aubrey, who has fled to France to escape his creditors, this is doubly alarming news. In short order the captain is interned, makes his escape across the French countryside, and leads a ship into battle. And again, his adventures are cleverly counterpointed by those of his alter ego Stephen Maturin.

Anbieterinformationen

BookLovers of Bath is based in the rural idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England and actually very nearly in Bath. After 20 years of being “internet only” I have now opened a shop, Fact or Fable, in the premises of our now-closed Post Office. With over 20,000 books in stock and another 5,000 or so in the shop I run an old-fashioned book business with every book listed, graded, picked, packed and posted by my own fair hand… abetted by my Jack Russells who are really, not, helpful.
